I bet you didn't think it was possible to screw up something as simple as a Toslink, but I seem to have managed it!

Installed today in dual-mono BuffaloII. It's configured for consumer level (so resistors installed). Signal in is OK (checked on another device) and 5VDC is getting to the board from a Placid. No lock on the BuffaloII though.

So how can I test (electrically) that the Toslink is working? What sort of voltages are expected at each point?

I assume the transistor is the most likely cause of a fault?

The "transistor" is actually a 3.3V regulator. You can start by checking it's output and make sure you are getting 3.3V.

Thanks Brian I knew that really...somewhere in the recesses of my mind.

Actually the Toslink is performing perfectly. The fault was a short length of fibre-optic cable which I made Whistle

Once again, I feel a bit stupid. At least I have posted my stupid mistakes so that:

a) others may laugh at me and

b) others may encounter a similar problem and, like me, find they have ignored the obvious.


Another TP product does a beautiful job. I love you guys.

Toslink module soundquality suffer from sharing a half LCDPS with the MUX and
the other half feeding the digital supply on the B32 board?
