Hi,

I have a question about the expected behavior of the differential output of my Buffalo II/IVY III combo. When the DAC is unlocked the voltage between the plus and minus signal is always 0V. However, when the DAC is locked and I hit stop on my player there is a voltage difference.

Does the DAC just hold the last sample on its outputs? That creates about 0.5V on the speaker outputs.

No the DAC simply outputs exactly what is at the digital input. If there is no signal it unlocks and goes to mute.

That makes sense and that is what I would expect. As it is however, when I hit stop on my player I get 0V on the output pins of the Buffalo on both channels but 0.011V and 0.017V between the + and - signal of the IVY. That translates to 0.219V and 0.369V on the outputs of the IVY.

When I switch the digital input away and lose the lock the voltage on the IVY pins also goes to 0V. I am using one of your S/PDIF muxes to control the digital input.

When I switch the digital input back and regain the lock the outputs on the IVY go back to the values above.

I am lost? I am using an Arduino to control the Buffalo. Could this be a settings issue?

Not sure I can explain it at all, but I do know that the MUX sends silence when it gets no signal. So it sounds like the signal with the slight DC noise is coming from the CDP.

Very interesting. I will try this with a different digital source. Could be simply a driver or firmware problem for the Tenor 8802L USB adapter.

A constant 0.5V DC into the speakers at stop does not sound like a good idea.

It turns out this specific USB->S/PDIF seems to be sending some fixed samples when I stop or pause the player resulting in a DC offset.

Very strange behavior...
