Hi to all,

i would use the WM8804 to convert the S/PDIF to I2S (16bit). The I2S should feed my TDA1541A NOS DAC.

Unfortunately i have no sound output Sick , independent if i set the I2S to 16 or 24 bit (AIFCONF0 1 or 0).

Can someone help?

Best regards,
Oliver

Hi Oliver,

I've been using the TP receiver from Squeezebox Touch into TDA NOS directly for the last month or so and it works with the settings as in photo attached. Hope this helps.

Kind regards,
Cornelius

Hi Cornelius,

I am also having the same trouble as Oliver...I too use a squeezebox touch into TDA Nos...i just tried your settings but i still get no sound.
I noticed from your photo that 3 leds are red and the one is green...i get the same when no digital lead is pluged from SB touch to dac...but as soon as i connect the lead all leds go green, even with SB touch turned off? Does yours do the same, or do the leds go green when you play a signal?

Here is a pic of my Dac.

Hi Alon,

Sorry, the photo was taken with the SPDIF disconnected. When connected all the LED's are green. I did have some issues with the setup but found that I had to power the receiver up with the SPDIF coax plugged in and Touch on. I leave my DAC on all the time and it works fine even unplugging and re-inserting the coax after the initial power up. As far as I can remember the default bit clock out from the Wolfson was 12mHz if booted up with SPDIF disconnected which is to fast for the TDA. It drops to 2.8mHz if powered up connected to coax. It's been a month since I checked with my DSO though, so the freq might be wrong. I'll check again tomorrow evening.

Thanks for the information Cornelius.

I tried powering it up with the Touch on and Coax connected...but had no luck this way either :(

I bet its something really simple!!!

Hi Alon,

Just had a look at my setup - my connections are as follows LRCLK to TDA pin1, BCK to pin2 and data to pin3. Pin 2 and 4 are connected to each other. When I boot the system with coax disconnected the BCK is 12Mhz and TDA is unhappy. If I then hot plug the coax the BCK drops to 2.8Mhz but still just static from TDA. If I then restart the DAC (both dac and receiver simultaneously) with Touch playing, the TDA resets and locks on to the i2s and I have sound.

Hope this helps.

Hi Cornelius,

thanks for your help. I tried everything you wrote, but with no success. Brick wall I also tried it with a bit more input voltage (5-5.5-6V) but nothing happened.

I think we must wait for help from Russ. Perhaps a batch of the modules have a failure!?

Did you have the board rev. V2.0?

I doubt there is anything wrong with the SPDIF module. Have you tested it with another I2S input DAC?

Hello Russ,

i use two identical TDA1541A DAC pcb´s in parallel modus. Both of them doesn´t work.
Alon (Malka07) use the same DAC pcb´s from me and have also no luck...

What i could say is, that the DAC´s work perfect with my USB to I2S module.

So what could we do?

Best,
Oliver

I don't know anything about the TDA1541, it is not a DAC I use or support. You are going to need to dig into the datasheets to see how things need to be done.

What I was saying is that if you want to test the SPDIF receiver then you might want to do it against a more modern DAC like the Opus to determine that it is configured correctly and works fine. Then study the datasheet of the Wolfson chip and the DAC and make sure they are compatible.

Hi Oliver,

Did you get your TPA SPDIF module no sound issue resolved? I have a similar problem.

thanks

I found the problem for my Reference DAC Module.
If i insert a buffer between the S/PDIF Transceiver pcb and the I2S input of the TDA1541A
it worked great. You could read it HERE.

To use the fastest buffer, i made a small "Ultra High Speed Buffer Module".

Best regards,
Oliver
