Hello

Did anyone try Receiver it with recent Airport Express N? It's jittery, as known, but getting better with linear PSU. Not sure about its optical out - people says different stories. For the moment direct Mac->USB->DAC sounds a little better, than AE-> optics -> DAC. Not dramatic, just a little more air and scene.

However, I got Coaxial output from Airport already, and hope to get the whole system even better.

Some qestions:

1. Would WM-Receiver help here?

2. If so, is it absolutely necessary to install Receiver inside the DAC (I use e-mu 0404 USB, modded)?

3. If I use Receiver outside the DAC, I mean connected straight to D-out TTL singal at Airport, is there a risk of getting jitter increased again due to coax cable length from Receiver to DAC?

Thank you.

Any thoughts, please?

Rumors on AE's jitter were caused by its first generation, G, that use USB data and bad PCM2705 chip. It's really sound plastic, agree.

New one, N, doesn't operate with USB transmission but has direct data processing in Marvel chip with Egress Jitter Pacer in it.
There's no proofs of its bad jitter so far. There was some public noise about it, but always related to a jitter minimizers marketing, and with no clear pointing on this new 'N' model.

I can't find reasonable proof of "oh that bad" optical output itself, again, rumors.

Any feedback?

Thanks

e-mu 0404 USB, modified: separated power, 2 linear PSUs (analogue and digital to DAC chip). Skipped opamps - straight outputs from AK4396 to the tube amp.

I would use I2S from the SPDIF receiver (via coax) into your DAC.

Thank you Russ

I guess it's better to order Buffalo, than re-do e-mu so deep... Does it make sense to have WM before Buffalo in the future, or Buffalo does de-jitter well by itself?
