I just get round to thinking... 'I must build a pair of these Sympatico amps'... to replace the basic digital chip amp I'm forced to use when one of my Wellborne's Terraplanes develops a problem with it's odd power supply. (Which it seems to do annually!)And you are out of stock...

Any idea when you you will be back in stock?

I presume I am correct in thinking just add transformers? In another post I see 400VA 20-24v?

Closest I can see in UK is either
300VA 230V 2 x 22V toroidal transformer
http://www.airlinktransformers.com/transformer/0300222-open-style-with-leads.asp

or

500VA 230V 2 x 25V toroidal transformer
http://www.airlinktransformers.com/transformer/0500224-open-style-with-leads.asp

Only driving a pair of horns, no crossover 16Ohm 96db or there abouts.

Merry Christmas to you and your families and keep up the good work.

I still have some first run Sympaticos here. Everything on the site is out of stock right now as we are on vacation. Check back on January 2-3.

You could use one of the 350VA per channel. That would work very well for your load.

Much as I thought Brian, thank you. I also have a much more subjective question, do you or Russ have any links (or words) to stuff comparing this new amp to you older, much respected, amps?

It is better in a lot of ways compared to the TXO. Especially since the driver is fully regulated and the signal paths are much much shorter. It really comes through in super articulate transients and low noise for a lot of contrast.

It has much better dynamic range than the RevC and lower distortion, and much better damping factor.

I am not sure what else to say. I think its the best sounding power amplifier I have designed yet. It also is pretty convenient to build, much more so than TXO. Just as case/connectors/wiring and a trafo or two. :) It small enough your could fit 4 or 5 or even 7 in a case no problem for HT use.

If you have heard a TXO-2, well Sympatico is indeed a step up from that.

I am actually amazed how hard I can push the little bruiser without any audible distortion into my 4 ohm speakers. But I do recommend healthy heat sinking if you aim to do that.

Cheers!
Russ

Russ/Brian, many thanks for all you help and comments, I will buy some, but first I need to fix my valve amps and then get a new Mac (blown motherboard)... not a great start to the year ;-)

I've only just got round to having a look Brian, but they seem to be still out of stock? If so any idea when the next batch will be due?

I just sold the last pair of the Rev1 boards. We are doing a bit of a redesign to make it more DIY-like, switching to more through-hole parts and such. I am guessing a few weeks before we have new boards ready.

How about a set of pads for a resistor and led? That would give an easy option to wire up an indicator led.

Just a suggestion, George

Hey Brian,

any update on availability? I was thinking about putting in an order for a JT and wanted to save on postage costs to the UK by grouping an order. Incidentally, any idea on the order of magnitude for postage costs and would I actually save much?

Thanks.

Hi,

Brian and I are thinking through the next revision. I should have a new layout soon.

People who have built the Sympatico love it, but it is not the easiest module to mount to a heatsink when its complete. So I am making that better.

I am also make more of the parts through hole instead of SMT, though a lot of them will remain SMT.

Cheers!

OK, thanks for the update. Do you mind giving me a ball park figure about how long you think you might take to get these boards ready? If it's longer than a month I may just put in an order for a JT now so that I have something to play with. If it's likely to be faster then I will probably wait.

Thanks, Shareef.

The boards are being reworked right now. We spend a good part of the day discussing layout and design changes. I think best-case it will take a few more days to get the design concepts ironed out, another week for board layout, then ordered. A few weeks for board mfg and kit building. Based on this, probably a month or so.

I look forward to building one of these! Today i have sold my Firstwatt F5 project to build somthing more intresting, this is the amplifier i have chosen! I plan to pair it with a buffalo DAC to get the ultimate balanced setup.

Can you tell me what the bass responce is like from this amplifier? Im a bit of a bass nut!
