Hi folks.

Sorry for all my newbie questions.


I am currently running a 1543 based DAC with passive I/V (100R) out. It is directly coupled to my amp ( just one coupling-cap on the amp input).

Can I accomplish this also with the Buffalo DAC? How would that have look like? What would be the best approach?

Hi,

Well this is the interesting thing. The ESS DAC is not like most current output DACs. It truly behaves like a voltage output with a series resistance of 195 ohms. As such, no passive I/V is really required or desired, and in fact would just make thinks worse. Just use the voltage output directly for the simplest possible solution.

I am looking forward to try this.

One more question:

Do I have to bridge GND and minus if running unbalanced SE output on the Buffalo DAC board or should I leave the minus open?

My current 1543 based DAC is still kind of less aggressive. Break-in time for Buffalo?

I am wondering if I need to apply the HF-filter to the output. You introduced an HF filter to the IVY recently to cope with the HF junk on the Buffalo output - right? Or do I mix up things here?
I'd appreciate if you could post how it looks like. For the future it's maybe a good idea to put that filter on the DAC board.

I am having BG caps installed in my old chain, which are known for its natural fluid sound. Perhaps I need to checkout your PS buffer caps fireing the analog out of the Sabre chip.
