I have built a Devinylizer and need +/- 15V.
At home now I have a 12V toroid, that would give near 17V DC to the reg circuit.
Is this 2V headroom sufficient for any losses within the reg circuit itself?
Failing that I have an 18V toroid, so that would be plenty at near on 25V, so some component changes needed.
Plus is dropping 10V too much in any way, the current wont be an issue.
Thanks for any help.

I would recommend just getting a 15V transformer, for the reasons you list.

I need -/+ 18 VDC. Would a toroid with 18v secondaries be the best choice?
