Hi!

New to the forum and going to build my first DAC. I would really like your advice and input.

I want to achieve a dac with usb input. The setup should be able to handle additional inputs that will be added later.

This is the setup I have in mind:
- Buffalo IIIse
- Legato I/V stage
- Amanero USB receiver

Is this a good place to start?

Are there any components not included in these kits that are required for the build? Powersupply, transformer, input/output connectors...?

/Martin

Welcome.

You will need a ~5.25VDC power supply for the Buffalo and a +/-15VDC powers supply for the Legato.

For these we offer either the Placid HD/Placid HD BP shunt regulators, or the Low-Current Dual Power Supplt (LCDPS) and Low-current Bipolar Power Supply (LCBPS). The Placids are better, but cost a little more, are larger and generate more heat.

Each of these will need it's own transformer, which we also offer.

Thank you!

Could only find the manual for Placid BP and it says its intended for +-10-20VDC. No issues with supplying only ~5.25VDC?

The LCDPS is currently marked as out of stock. Will these be available again soon?

The Placid HD is just the positive half of the Placid HDBP.

Both can supply a wide range of output voltages (~3 - 20VDC), and is somewhat dependent on the transformer used. The 10-20VDC number in the manual was when used with a 12-20VAC transformer. Using a lower voltage transformer will allow you to set lower output voltages without generating excessive heat.

We will be making a new board order shortly to replenish several items, including the LCDPS.

Thank you.

What are the key differences between Legato and IVY-III? Is one more suitable for Buffalo III than the other?

They were both designed specifically for the Buffalo (ES9018 chip). Key differences are in their architectures, the details of which are one their respective pages.
