This is the second time in ten years that I reversed the polarity on a project and destroyed a couple of electrolytic caps. This was on the Legato. They do make a rather interesting pop when the go. I have replacements on order. Will reversing the polarity hurt anything else on the Legato. It was only connected wrong for 5 seconds.

Thanks

Jigb

Yes, there is a very good probability the transistors are dead, but who knows you might have gotten lucky.

Russ, it would be nice if PCBs in TPA future projects have protection diodes for power input.

A person who doubts their wiring ability can easily put a rectifier bridge in front of the module. :)

Well I caught a break. Replaced the caps and everything works. I am feeding it from a Rega Saturn. The Buffalo III / Legato 3.1 sounds a lot better then the onboard Rega DAC. More inner detail and body. I ended up using output caps. I tried running without the ground in balanced mode. I worked but over time the Rega controls stopped working. I think the system was finding a ground through the digital side. I can't wait for the caps to break in. They are Dynamicap's which take a long time to break in. They tend to sound thin and a little grainy for at least 50 hours.

Thanks Russ and Brian for making truly high end products affordable for DIY. Hopefully you will have the USB module out soon.

John

I am very glad there was minimal damage. I am even more glad you are enjoying it! Thanks!
