about the kit's heat sink of the regulator:
with the holes in the sink, the chip is mounted either to high on the top hole and wires don't even touch PCB, or in the middle hole, it is too low, i.e. the bottom part of the chip is beyond the heat sink. any advice is appreciated. thanks!

Use the lower mounting hole. Only a small portion of the regulator is not in contact with the heatsink.
