Hi Russ & Brian,

I understood from a few people's remarks that the 1.2V supplies on the Sabre were not critical .... could you shed some light on that?

They are all critical. Without them the thing won't work. :)

Honestly it is important that all of the supplies be low impedance and clean. Are the stock regs good enough? You bet! Are these better? Yep, especially in regard to output impedance/load regulation. How much so? Well let your ears be the judge. :)

Yes, the current revision should be able to supply it just fine. If anyone has any issue getting the required current let me know, but I am not aware of any reason it should not.

Thanks for your promptly reply, one more question about Trident, as the BII manual mentioned adding external regulator and removing ferrite bead will be user own experiment, will not supported by TP, how about installing Trident Regulators? will be fully support by TP?

Also will TP selling kit of Buffalo II and Trident, so the extra AVCC and LT regulator will not come with the BII PCB to save user some cost?

We can only sell Buffalo II in the stock form.

Installing Trident correctly is completely up to you.

It is an optional DIY add on. This is really a modification intended for folks who like to tinker. It is not at all necessary for superb results.

Also, the AVCC module should always be used for best results, even when using Trident.

I missed the other discussion about the Placid: it makes sense 3 shunt regulators require more power, but what should be the setting on the Placid, 450mA, 475mA?

Just setup your placid so it it shunting something like 50ma. This can be measured. :)

Also remember each trident shunt current can also be tuned via a through hole resistor bringing the current for that Trident up or down depending on the shunt current you choose.

Russ, I don't think I can choose how much current to shunt on the Trident, as I've chosen 2 combo sets. What's the ballpark figure for a BII with 3 Trident modules?
P.S. I had not seen the Placid 1.0a manual yet. Mentioning R3s' voltage drop is a nice addition for finetuning.

The Trident manual will make it more clear. I am working on that now.

In any case, you should be able to adjust the placid to supply enough current.

LCDPS would also really be a better choice since you will be shunting locally after it. In essence, a linear pre-reg makes more sense in the case where you are using Tridents. :)

I know, I know. Shunting on two places in a circuit is an absolute waste, but they're already in place. And replacing 2 perfectly working Placids because an LCDPS would be a more sensible option just doesn't make sense to me. :)

What is the clearance of the DAC, output stage and regulators?

Also would it be possible to install the regulators so they are not sticking straight up to reduce their height or fold them down? Thanks.

the Placid´s are already in place
will it decrease performance having these instead of LCDPs infront of the Tridents?
or is it just that they´re not really necessary?

Placing a shunt after another shunt simply is a waste of energy. It will not decrease performance, but it will increase the energy bill.

Just recieved the Buffalo Trident set (what quick service!). One question, the 3.3v modules come with the 3 bin header pins and a 3 pin socket, but the 1.2 v one has the pins only. Is this correct or am I missing a part?

I include a 3-pin socket for the VDD_XO only. In that position, if you have the firmware chip in place, it can be a tight fit. The socket is an optional extension to make it easier to reach the pads.

Would there be any issue with using wire to connect the modules to the board instead of the pins so they would be able to lie flat and reduce the clearance?
