I just had a long weekend with the owner of this dac build. We had plans to do everything, but ended up having to do a lot over and over (and over, and over......). And faulty computer parts had to be returned Brick wall

But last night we were able to get sound out of the DAC finally. We had to use a "wood-testbed-ventus_ez-rig" to test the dac prior to connecting it, and at around 01.30 we were able to start playing music through the exadevices u2i. After making sure everything was ok with some crap iem`s we hooked up a set of good phones and were amazed at how well it sounded with nearly no runtime or tweaks.

So the owner is happy :)

Early today we hooked it up to the main system and fired it up and listened to a few tunes before I had to leave for home (3 days later than planned). But the sound is great and now he can enjoy it while I iron out the kinks on the computer side (he`s using a laptop as the source for now).

It is.... and it was not.... ;)

Started out with a different motherboard.

DSC_0253.JPG (278kb) downloaded 21 time(s).

But there was something wrong with the motherboard. So it was returned. Got the new one today and installed it and the OS etc today.

Now the system is up and running. So next step is to mount a powersupply for hijacking the USB bus power to the exxa-card in the dac.

Hehe yea,
well today I ordered the mobo from the shop I used to work in so that if there was something wrong I could just drop in and swap it there ;)

Edit: just went headless (using teamviewer proper remote desktop), works like a charm from laptop, ipad and android phone. Nice to have a fully functioning htpc without the need for keyboard&mouse hooked up to it ;)

I have been testing the htpc on my dac today.
I am using a set of teleporters and a amanero card.

I get full lock and can play files at 32-352800 with stable lock.

I do get dropouts from flipping the lightswitch on or off.

Good progress! The wife's recliner will cause interrupts in my DAC too. SPDIF only IIRC. I'll have to check when playing USB to I2S.

I'm thrilled with my new music server. Finally got it loaded fully, at 52% of 6TB so some room to grow.

The owner of this DAC build is now happy. Music is playing more or less constantly when he is home. He told me that he had never used the system for music playback as much as now with the DAC in place of the Anthem Sorround preamp he used previously.

mms_20160502_001716.jpg (81kb) downloaded 28 time(s).

mms_20160428_205447.jpg (81kb) downloaded 32 time(s).

And that makes me happy to know that I could help someone get back to the music :)

The DAC is atm running with the onboard firmware controller. In about a month we will get the controller with its oled display up and running as well.

Now he has my speakers for a while. I am redecorating my apartment and good speakers are made to be used ;)

Cronos/hermes amanero is next.
As well as the controller solution.
