Hi,

a short question (my Legato will soon arrive, I hope, and I want to be sure before I start working on it):

Legato (only balanced build) will be connected to Classe pre-amp which has Maximum input voltage 10Vrms and Input Impendance 200 Kohm.

Do I need caps on Legato Bal out? If I do, what spec?

My BIII works fine with Ivy-III but I want to try it with Legato as well.
Thank you.

¿Do you know if your Classe preamp uses input cap or DC servo?

0.47uF can be enough for 200Kohms to play till 20Hz. My advice use Russian teflon FT-3.

No, I don't know. There's nothing about it in the manual :)
Thank you, Felipe.
I'd appreciate if Russ or Brian will answer this question as well.
If no I will follow your advice though I know nothing about Russian teflons and where to buy them from, as of now.

Russian FT-3 teflon caps look for on ebay, link to output cap calculator if you need for other time:

I don't know anything about your pre-amp. :) So I cannot answer if you "need" caps .

Be prudent, and install them to be safe. 1-10uf should be fine.

I found info about my pre-amp from the manufacturer. I guess I don't need any caps. Is THAT so?

"ALL SIGNALS ONCE IN THE BALANCED MODE ARE ROUTED THROUGH
A DC SERVO TO REMOVE ANY UNWANTED DC FROM THE SOURCE.
COUPLING THE SIGNAL IN THIS WAY ELIMINATES THE NEED FOR
SONICALLY DEGRADING BLOCKING CAPS WHILE PROTECTING
SPEAKERS FROM THE POSSIBLE DAMAGE OR DISTORTION RESULTING
FROM PASSING THROUGH TO THE AMPLIlER."

Yes, but be sure Legato don't ouput DC before connect to your preamp.

Hi all,

just received my Legato.

IC 2 and IC3 are soldered to the board already. If I don't need SE, I should unsolder them or just leave them as they are?

Thank you those who are swift to answer :)

Well, finally, I have built my Legato :)
The sound is really good.
No caps at the balanced outputs, my pre-amp works fine and zeroes all DC, speakers don't smoke and I measure zero volts at the speakers terminals. Also, I changed to the latest version of AVCC which stabilized Lock at HD and lowered heat inside the Placid (I don't know why but I am happy).
With no Buffalo connected I can zero voltage between + and -. But when BIII connected there is 0,24v between + and -, trimmer at the final turn.
9,5v between + (-) and ground. My pre-amp can handle 10, so I'm a bit anxious.

The question: is it normal? (0,24v) Maybe I should turn to a different trimmer to null the DC? Or ...?
Question 2: How much to shunt? 50-60?

1. Just removed "ground" cable, now feeding preamp only with + and - (as Brian advised somewhere). Everything works fine.
2. Found the post where Russ advises 50

so the problem is closed for now.
