The master clock works at 80mhz. I am not sure what you would do with that. :)

But the short answer is no to the first question, and I am not am not sure what you mean by the second. It requires a master clock and it has one. :)

Cheers!

Russ, I want to connect Buffalo to PC sound card "ESS Juli". Juli have "external clock" feature, I want to take master clock from DAC. Can I do that?

No, the Sabre DAC does not work like ordinary synchronous DACs. The only reference clock is 80mhz and I doubt your soundcard would do anything useful with that. All other signals are generated external to the DAC, they are inputs not outputs.

Cheers!

Thank you Russ for quick response.

Can I use another frequency quartz for Sabre clock for example 96MHz or 88,2MHz or something?

80mhz very close to the maximum.

You need >= 74.112mhz to lock 192khz with SPDIF.

Any clock from 40-100mhz should be OK, but we chose a clock that works very well for all practical audio formats from 44.1/16 to 192/32.

Also you need to keep in mind, the DAC is ASYNCHRONOUS that means it is not useful to make the clock a ratio of some other clock or synched with some other clock.

Cheers!
Russ

In other words: you should not care to much about what the quality of the source clock is as long as the Buf32 has a decent one ;)
