Hello !

I 've just connected USB/SPdif board to my computer USB plug, this is the firt time I do it, just after ended few soldering (plugs, caps):
The message I get is "Unknown Device"
I reboot the computer : same message
I had a look on soldering points with magnifying lenses : nothing wrong , apparently
Have tried the USB on another computer, another cable : same message from Window
Before to connect the USB 2707, I was using USB PCM2906 without any problem, for 2 years

Hello Russ !

The first time the board is connected, just solders caps and USB plugs ended
I bought all the kit, Usb, Buffalo, IVY, and 2 PSU boards
I just wanted to test the USB/Spdif board, the first one I had mounted ,with a simple dac I own, nothing more, but test ended prematurly
I've unsoldered one Elna cap to verify the polarity drawn on board, nothing wrong (2 caps Elna have same position, - next to USB plug ?) may be I'm wrong ?
Usually, with such a device, Windows search in the system conf, how to use any device, and after few seconds , accept and connect the device
Few minutes before writing this message, I've connected on a third Windows PC,new cable,without any other connection, same message "Unknown device"
I remember to have read such message somewhere before...

Is the I2S/SPDIF jumper installed?

The jumper is set on S/PDIF position, with jumper middle/down position when you take the board to read 'Opus USB Receiver BP ...(board with jumper on left side)
May be I could test continuity point to point between parts if you ask with details , or test voltage on points you would gave details ?

Only thing I can think to check is for short across caps. If you find no shorts, then measure voltage across the caps.

I've tested all caps : no short
I've tested USB, from plug, to PCB tracks : OK
I ve tested voltage on C1 : 5.1v

How long is your USB cable. TI Tech Support told us to keep it shorter than 6 feet, though there is nothing in the datasheet about it. I have seen issues with longer cables.

I've tried with 3 different cables , all of them shorter or ~ 4 feets, all of them working with anything else, like USB/Spdif basic PCM2906 (2 models tested), Usb Disk, etc...
The tests have been made on 3 differents computers I have, running Windows XP updated, on native USB1.1 and USB 2 ports...
I have no personnal idea about this incident

I am not sure what the problem with the board is without looking at it in person. As soon as I have more in stock I will send you a replacement. Sorry for the trouble. My only guess is something happened in it's travels, static perhaps.

I would be interested in looking at it if you don't mind sending it to me. I will pay for shipping.

Hello Brian !

I've tested a little more...
And what a surprise ? some legs of the PCM2707 are not soldered on board
I've found pins 6, 17,20,23 (may be more) without soldering metal, just "close to" but no electric contact between board and pins (hard to find, even with magnifying lense)
What to do ? May I try to repair ? have you any parts on stock?
All the other parts (Buffalo, LCBPS, LCDPS, IVY ) are fully fonctionnal, nothing to say, but "what a sound" !

Hello

Pin 23 has been tested electrically (Ohm-meter) , quite easy, between 22R and the pin23, on the upper side, near plastic ...(avoid to bring contact while pushing)
The other pins are not confirmed, because I have to find a point "From"
Visually, But not sure, I can see a "brighting point' , just at the end of the pin..
I can't take photo, as I hav'nt a macro lense
I would gave some more details, have to test "Electrically" this evening

Finally, only the pin 23 has no contact..Tested electrically
Other pins listed have contact, tested electrically
I think there is a contact, but visually no metallic soldering point...Suspect assembling...

I tried to solder it, and tested electrically : OK
But the USB chip still doesn't want to connect to Windows ! Unknown device
I'm disappointed, I was hoping to solve the problem
