I just got my Buffalo up and running with the IVY. Even with my headphone amp turned up all the way the music is very quiet. Is there something I can check or adjust to increase the volume? I don't have a volumite hooked up. I've double checked my computer output and the volume is at full. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I just tried a SPDIF out from a cd player and the sound is still very low.

Ok, thanks. Have you double checked the resistor values on the IVY?

How much gain does you headphone amp have?

Have you tried the DAC out to some other amplifier?

Thank you guys for sending me a replacement IVY. I finally got around to populating the board last night (V 2.01) which has some noticeable differences from the original one. Much to my dismay I have the same problem with this one. It runs my HD 650's fine through the balanced outputs but when I try the SE outputs to a number of different headphone amps the output is very quiet and slightly distorted. I have a volumite and when turned all the way up the SE outputs are very very quiet, but as I said balanced outputs sound perfect.

I used a 25w Weller soldering iron to build both ivy's and never had it on the board for an unusual amount of time. Is it possible I made a mistake building the board? The chances of getting two different boards with problematic op amps seems very slim. But I can't imagine what I may have done wrong. Any ideas would be very helpful, or any tests I could run to help determine the problem. I have tried it from a few different sources as well as different amps. Thanks. I will post a picture later today when I find my camera.

What kind of cable do you use to connect the IVY to the SE equipment?
Your problem sounds like the signal and the ground are reversed.

Solid core copper wire. I'll try switching it but when I change the SE outputs to + and G of the balanced outs it sounds fine.

Maybe something is wrong with the relay and you are getting the signal through ground.
Check out if the relay is working properly.

I tried hooking up one rca jack the other way (G wire to SE and vice versa) and kept the other one hooked up as before and the two sound identical no matter how I have them wired. How do I go about checking the relay? Thanks for the help.

Without any tool you can check if you hear a quiet "click" during power on and off.

What are your rail voltages? +-15VDC is ideal.
